Other Projects

Each year, my high school band and orchestra allowed a few seniors to do a senior solo. This was usually a concerto or piece the a senior really wanted to do. I decided that I wanted to conduct a piece I had written for my AP Music Theory final project, a chorale for band entitled, A Bittersweet Goodbye. This is the video of the piece at the concert which had the opportunity to write, teach, and conduct to a group that is still very special to me. This was my first experience conducting a band.

In the Colorado Honor Band Association, each year at the end of the last rehearsal at the Summer Band Camp, they allow seniors to conduct one of the piece's we're playing. My senior year, we simply didn't have the time, so I asked to conduct Doctor Who the rehearsal before my last concert instead. After I had conducted the piece at the rehearsal, Mr. Otis asked if I wanted to conduct it at the concert as well. I was ecstatic at the opportunity and said yes right away. Above is the video one of my family members took from the concert, my second experience conducting a band.

On March 3rd, 2019, my chapter of Sigma Alpha Iota hosted that year's Province Day, a day were SAI members from all over Colorado come to celebrate music and sisterhood. Our theme that year was "Develop Strong Women Leaders" and "Promote Women in Music," so I did a presentation on Women Composers from the Classical/Romantic era that we don't always know much about. Above, you can see the PowerPoint that aided my presentation.

During my winter break of 2018/19, I took the initiative to go observe at my old elementary school. There I sat in on Theresa Derr's Kindergarten-5th grade classes. I went on four separate days, one of which was the dress rehearsal for the 3rd grade musical. Here you can see the notes I took on each day about the separate classes and how each one posed different challenges.

In July of 2019, I volunteered as a Camp Counselor for Off the Hook Arts Beginning String Camp. Every morning before sectionals we had circle time and African Drumming. During circle time, we learned a folk song from Africa. A few days in, the children had masted the song and the passing game that went with it. The instructor asked me if I knew any other songs that were similar. I responded that I knew Epoi Tai Tai from my observation with Mrs. Theresa Derr. I taught the students this Maori hand-clapping/rhythm stick song and we performed it at the concert along with the African passing game. Above is a link to the song and a game that was similar to the one I used.

In Fall of 2020, I was pleased to showcase my final performance as a clarinet student at Colorado State University. With the completion of this recital, and my recital paper, I completed my clarinet requirements as a Music Education and Composition Major. I am so grateful to my professor, Dr. Ferreira and all he has taught me. Above, you can see the recital video along with the paper I wrote about each piece that was performed.
